Set Down The Weight You Carry

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
— 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes not from what our hands do, but from what our hearts hold. Worry has a way of settling into our shoulders, our sleep, our silence. We carry tomorrow's uncertainties alongside today's demands, and somewhere along the way we forget that we were never meant to carry it all alone.

Peter's words are not a suggestion but an invitation: cast your cares. The word means to throw, to fling away deliberately, the way you might set down a heavy pack you have carried too long. This is not passive resignation. It is an active choice to release what was never ours to hold in the first place, and to place it into hands strong enough to bear it.

What makes this possible is not our ability to let go, but the character of the One who receives what we release. He careth for you. Not merely notices, not merely permits, but genuinely, tenderly cares. Your anxieties are not an interruption to His attention. They are precisely what draws His attention toward you. So tonight, name what weighs on you, and hand it over. He is not too busy, too distant, or too tired to hold it with you.

Today's prayer
Lord, I bring You the worries I have been carrying alone. Thank You that You care for me personally and completely. Help me to release what I cannot control and rest in Your steady, attentive love.
