Somewhere a kettle is starting to hiss and the sky hasn't decided what color to be yet. This is the hour David chose for singing, before the day gave him any reason to. Come sit in that same quiet with me.
"But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble." — Psalm 59:16 (KJV)
This morning's prayer Lord, my voice is rough this early, but I will use it anyway. You were my wall when trouble pressed close, and you are still standing there now, steady as ever. So I sing — not because everything is settled, but because you have been faithful in every unsettled place I've stood. Let this be the sound my morning makes: gratitude before complaint, praise before petition. Remind me, as the day fills with noise, that the same strength that guarded me yesterday walks with me into today. Thank you for being near enough to sing to. Amen.
Today, on purpose:
Hum or sing one line of thanks before checking your phone
Name one way God has been your defense this year
Speak a kind word to someone before you speak of worries
